The Revolution Of The American Revolution - 3055 Words

When the American Revolution first broke out, many countries did not give the colonies more than a passing thought; most assumed that this rebellion would quickly be quelled by the world renowned British army and the colonies would once again be under their control. However, under the leadership of military officers and the guidance of laws and proclamations set forth by the Founding Fathers, America succeeded in their revolution against the control of Britain. Textbooks and teachers have praised America for years, stating that the revolution was a major turning point in world history, setting precedence for future revolutions, such as the French Revolution just a decade after the American Revolution ended. However, in later years, historians have begun to argue that the American Revolution was not the first of its kind, or unique in the way researchers previously stated. The Declaration of Independence, though groundbreaking in its own right, was influenced by documents and declarat ions in the English Civil War, such as the Petition of Rights and the English Bill of Rights. The Declaration of Independence, in turn, was a base for the authors and contributors of France’s Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen. Family Curfews Can Not Keep Teens Out of Trouble Free Essays

Looking for freedom is human nature. Everyone wants to have his or her own space and time to manage. When you were a teenager, you sought for independence and tried to decide by yourself, but when you become a parent, can you still remember to let your children be free and have faith in them? Most parents will forget the feeling they experienced when they were teenagers and forgot to make the things right when they become moms or dads. We will write a custom essay sample on Family Curfews: Can Not Keep Teens Out of Trouble or any similar topic only for you Order Now They set a lot of rules at home for their kids and sometimes even strict family curfews. But do they work? Can they really keep teens out of trouble, or do they make it worse? Parents like to give curfews for their children like â€Å"you have to get home at XX time† and â€Å"you can not go anywhere without my permission,† etc. If they are grounded, they may resist it and get into trouble sometimes. In Irvine’s (2009) article, she cites Sanchez’s words that giving family curfews is like â€Å"putting a Band-Aid on the problem† (para. 25). You can not solve the problem your children have or prevent the trouble that may happen to them by setting curfews because curfews may cause computer game and pornography addictions, and family conflicts which is not good for building up the teens personality or keeping them healthy. Family curfews may lead to computer game addictions. If parents give their children curfews that they have to stay at home since a certain time, and because parents respect their privacy, teens may shut themselves in their rooms and do something that parents do not expect. In addition, teens all have their own computers nowadays, so it’s easy for them to have computer game addictions. They will play online computer games just because they can not go out and play, and they do not have other things to do at home. That is a kind of trouble that could be brought on by curfews, and a lot of parents barely notice that their kids are having some serious problems. Computer game addiction is a terrible behavior because it is something unreal. Teens who like to play those games are always easy to be attracted by the fantasy world that built up in those games and they are more likely to ignore their studies, family and friends. Sometimes because they don’t have a sense of achievement in their real life, they will lose themselves in the fictitious world where they can get a illusory sense of accomplishment. It’s dangerous for teens to escape to the online world to compensate their frustration in reality and behave violently to which they learn from violent video games, and curfews give some teens excuses for staying at home and doing these â€Å"geek† things. There was a news report from Nan Fang Daily, and Li (2003) said that a 15 year-old boy, whose parents gave him a curfew, was led to a serious addiction of computer games. When the parents finally found out, they tried many ways to solve this problem, but the boy was so into it and could not help playing PC games. Eventually he ran away from home and never went back because he could not endure the double pressure from computer game addiction and from parents. That’s clearly shows that curfews can not keep teens out of trouble, they can even bring them some severe problem, and computer game addiction is one of them. Just like computer game addiction, pornography addiction can be another bad behavior caused by family curfews. When teens are forced by parents to stay at home, they will find an outlet to vent their discontent, and they may indulge in pornography on the internet. Nowadays, it’s easy for people to bump into some pornographic web sites unintentionally when they surf on the internet. Since teenagers are people that are always curious about everything, especially sex, it’s more possible for them to take a look when they encounter those sites. Moreover, there are so many pornographic web sites on the internet, and people can easily open them, watch them, or even download them. For teens, these kinds of websites provide the exact knowledge that they yearn for. According to Family Safe Media (2001), the 12 to 17 year-old group is the main viewer who search porn online. So when they are ordered to be at home and are â€Å"working† with their computers, they may look at those sites and then are addicted to them. It’s easy for them to want to experience the sensation of sex because their hormones rise which makes them be impulsive and passionate for sex, and it’s possible for them to learn something wrong. There was a real story Mueller (2005) told about some 10 year-old boys who were from Christian families in which the parents were very strict and made a lot of rules. They were found having oral sex with one of their male classmates, which really shocked the parents. They learned to do it because one of them found a porn site on the internet and were quickly addicted to it. Then he searched for some more extreme sites and told his friends to watch and try to do what they saw on the show. This gives us an idea that if teens are restrained too much at home and spend a lot of time with themselves which is like giving them curfews, they may have computer addiction in pornography which is possible to put themselves in grave danger. Family curfews, moreover, can result in family conflicts. As we all know, teenagers easily become angry, insecure, confused, sensitive and impulsive. They tend to be more independent and have intense needs to be accepted by others. If there are strict parents in the families who give their children curfews all the time, their children will not listen but fight against them like Marmer said in Irvine’s (2009) article, â€Å"If you keep telling kids ‘no’ all the time and don’t give them a ‘yes’ part, they’re going to rebel† (para. 8). There are a lot of families in which parents set many rules for the children that cause family conflicts. Teenagers who are experiencing adolescence possibly will have the reverse psychology towards parents. When parents gives curfews, some teens may argue for their rights of being independent and make deals with their parents in which case their reaction can be accepted, but others may challenge the parental authority. They probably become resentful and aggressive which may lead to quarreling or fighting with their parents, and they will be hostile and frustrated that could bring about cold war with their parents and result in running away from home or even committing suicide and some crimes eventually. Furthermore, because some teens are required to stay at home, they can not keep in touch with their friends or team members. They may become introverted, isolated, and negative when they interact with people, and they may become less active in both sports and social activities, which may have bad influences on their physical and psychological health. According to Fox News (2009), a 11 year-old New Mexico boy murdered his father with his father’s rifle because his father was always very strict to him by giving severe curfews and sometimes punishments. That made the boy be angry and aggressive, feel depressed and neglected and want to rebel all the time which result in this astonishing consequence. This shows that curfews can cause family conflicts or even juvenile crimes by affecting teens’ behavior and twisting teens’ personality which will bring serious family or social issues. To conclude, we should not enforce family curfews on teens because they can not keep teens out of trouble, and they may bring more troubles instead. First, they may cause computer game addiction. If you keep your children at home, and then mind your own business and leave them with their computers in their rooms, they may become quickly addicted to computer ames rather than have social activities because they are stuck at home. Computer game addiction which can be caused by curfews is harmful for teens’ growth. Second, family curfews can also lead to pornography addiction. When teens are forced to stay at home with their computer as company for them, they may easily indulge in pornography on the internet and this kind of curiosity may bring some dangerous problem which has a bad i nfluence on the teens’ physical and psychological health. In addition, family curfews can result in serious family conflicts because teens are more likely to rebel when the parents set a lot of strict rules or prevent them from their friends. This may lead to severe conflicts between teens and parents that can result in terrible personal and social issues such as suicide and violent crime. Setting family curfews is not the best way to prevent teens from having trouble. What we need to do is communicate more with them and give wise advice in the appropriate moment like Berger said in Springen’s (2010) article, â€Å"The teenager should have his own good sense to guide him when it is time to come home† (para. 11). Compare Contrast Elizabeth Bishop free essay sample

Letting Go While â€Å"The Fish† by Elizabeth Bishop is literally about fishing, one can dive beneath to the deeper meaning of the strength it takes to â€Å"let go. † Similarly, â€Å"In Honor of David Anderson Brooks, My Father† by Gwendolyn Brooks, the meaning of the poem is about the narrator learning to let go of the sorrow that the death of her father caused. Though both poems share similar themes, each speaker’s outlook on life, style of poetry, and the way in which they convey the concepts of poetry, strongly differ. Despite the fact that both Elizabeth Bishop and Gwendolyn Brooks won Pulitzer Prizes, both took life routes which were unlike each other’s. Some would say that they were as different as night and day. Bishop wrote poetry to finance her travels, while Brooks used poetry to inspire young African American writers throughout the Civil Rights Movement. Bishop was shy, but was said to have a taste for both the exotic and the ordinary. We will write a custom essay sample on Compare Contrast Elizabeth Bishop or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This comes through in her array of different poems. Some of Bishop’s poems are lighthearted and whimsical, whereas others are more solemn. Because of her passion for everything with an exotic or unique background, she found many of her poems to use vivid imagery and to be written in free verse. On the other hand, Brookes’ poems were more encouraging and, at times, almost frivolous. Brookes was a well known Civil Rights Movement leader, thus it is no surprise many of her poems were aimed to keep spirits soaring. She manages to not only excite the hearts of young African Americans, but of all races across America with her smooth poetry which seemingly rolls of one’s tongue. Brookes wrote an assortment of poetry throughout her life time, but he most famous poems would always have a rhyme-scheme that was sure to catch and hold the eye of the reader. As a result of Bishop’s and Brookes’ different life style and poetry technique, it is no wonder that while both addressing the topic of â€Å"letting go,† the views they choose to take are extremely diverse. Bishop writes through the eyes of a fisher, a fisher who catches an obviously old, strong fish. As she appreciates the fish she goes beyond the ideals of a fisherman and a fish and begins to see the fish as more. The fisher seems to come to a higher understanding of respect or admiration for the fish, and lets him go. At the beginning, he was the fisher’s prized possession, and by the end, he is just another free fish. On the contrary, Brookes is talking about somebody she has already â€Å"let go,† her father. She writes, not through the point of view of someone who is currently letting go, but through the eyes of someone who has already done the maturing, and let go. She speaks of how great her father once was and how she has faith that his spirit is doing just as great. Her poem inspires one to move on and remember the good things of a lost one. Regardless of the fact that Brookes was a young African American growing up in a difficult time, she managed to keep her poetry upbeat and encouraging. Though Bishop’s times where not as difficult she captured the lifestyle she lived through her easy-going and detail-oriented poetry. Brookes and Bishop wrote in completely different styles of poetry, it is true, but both have managed to capture the concept of letting go in a relatable and blithe manner. If everyone viewed the world at they did, it would truly be a happier place.

Managing the Four Layers of Diversity free essay sample

Using Diversity in the Workplace Managing diversity requires an understanding for the differences in all organizational members as individuals. The attitudes and perceptions must reflect training and respect for each person and lack of stereotypes as the leading idea of what the individual adds to the company. â€Å"Organizations must first learn to value culture as we associate often from social circles, backgrounds, or cultures, making the need for quality our first objective† (Easy in Organizations 2009). Managers must encourage and reprimand based on actual occurrences and work productivity rather than the differences in the four layers of diversity, personality and internal, external and organizational dimensions we possess that make up the diversity (Kinicki, A and Kreitner, R. 98). Diversity by definition is the â€Å"multitude of individual differences and similarities that exist among people† (Kinicki, A and Kreitner, R. 97) Diversity is what makes each of us unique. It is the reason some of us are qualified for certain jobs and some of us aren’t. We will write a custom essay sample on Managing the Four Layers of Diversity or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Diversity is not about only about the common included facors like race, color, gender and ethnicity. The diversity umbrella also houses different attributes to our uniqueness such as work experience, personal habits, income and appearance (Kinicki, A and Kreitner, R. 98). Managers must use these differences to encourage diversity in the workplace. Interviewers should not hire because of the diversity, but because of the actual qualifications of the interviewees. They must however recognize what the distinction contributes to the company. We as managers must also encourage other employers to recognize and respect what every person’s diversity gives. This will remove the feelings that women and minorities are reaching glass ceilings in the work place. The glass ceiling refers to the lack of ability for women and minorities to advance to top management positions (Kinicki, A and Kreitner, R. 101). Organizations with a glass ceiling for certain employees will most likely not have the best people for a job in positions they deserve. These actions will cost the company more in terms of possible financial increase and increased productivity. These companies will base promotions from biases and prejudices. The book did point out important ways for employees to overcome the glass ceilings. The table on page 103 points of actions like: Develop leadership outside the office; Network with influential colleagues; Change companies; Be able to relocate; Seek difficult or high-visibility assignments; upgrade educational credentials; and consistently exceed performance expectations. All of these actions require the individual to take responsibility for their own organizational future. Even if the company doesn’t, they should accentuate the diversity within them to expose the negative stereotypes to be false. Doing these actions force all organizations to look at the individual. Networking with colleagues will open doors for the individual that is always seeking more difficult assignments in their current position. All of these recommendations intertwine to create opportunities for the individual. The four layers of diversity expose the differences that exist within all of us and make up our uniqueness which makes us have our own value. The four layers include: Personality; Internal Dimension like race age and gender; External Dimensions such as Income, parental status, work experience and educational background; and Organizational Dimensions like: work content/field, union affiliation, management status and seniority (Kinicki, A and Kreitner, R. 98). These differences not only create our biases but also create the biases against us.We should focus our energy on embracing the layers we cannot change which are our personality and internal or primary dimensions and work on the ones we can change like the external and organizational dimensions. If we are embracing ours and others diversity we won’t have issues with diversity instead we will have productivity with diversity at its’ root. In creating my own layers of diversity I kept everything the same but added familial upbringing in the internal dimensions.I believe it is one of the most important factors in making up out personality and it has much influence on how we view the people around us. Organizations and managers alike must embrace and value diversity of employers. We must look at individuals for who they are and not judge them by our personal stereotypes. Diversity makes us unique and must become a tool by which we respect, understand and encourage one another. Individuals must not allow glass ceilings to limit their abilities. We must all use our diversities to our advantage.

This is because; as much as the content he is providing to the student might be hard, he should always try to simplify it for easy understanding (Szwejczewski 64). As a teacher, one should always provide a good learning environment for students, the slow learners, the fast learners, and those who are interested in co-curricular activities. In everything, that a teacher does in class it should be based on meeting the needs of the diverse student population. Even though students are taught in the same learning conditions, they tend to have different experiences.

Global diversity Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Global diversity - Essay Example art of the legal environment in the Human Resource Department that involves training, conflict resolution, advising, and punishing of the workforce as desired. It also involves management and team building within the organization. In this case, Gladys’s harassment from a senior partner should have been reported immediately to the Human Resource authorities through her line manager to validate her case in court. The manner in which Gladys’s channels her anger towards the company is uncalled for as no relevant authorities were informed. There would have been a conflict resolution committee to deliberate on her case before resigning and suing her former employer. In my opinion, the case Jennifer has filed against her employer will not materialize for him, as she is likely to lose it. This is because firstly, she is no longer part of the workforce in the company and secondly, there is no concrete evidence of her harassment reported to the authorities before leaving the comp any. Thirdly, her reasons for resigning are unclear to the management even though she claims the sexual harassments from the senior partner instigated her exit from the company even after six months of enduring through this harrowing

Immigration Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words

Immigration Law - Essay Example Since, the rebuilding of modern UK results in a huge demand of skilled labor from outside countries; Britain largely remained a country of net emigration until the 1990s. The government's latest population projections, published in October 2009, have an annual net immigration of 180,000 (BBC 2009). Successive governments from the early 1970 itself, operated tight controls on immigration in an effort to curb immigration from New Commonwealth countries. In the past decade UK has mostly put effort on enhancing the skill level of the workforce within the country that supports the interdependent aspirations of a competitive and productive economy in global market. Finally, government took step towards initiating the Points Based System in order to create a unified selection system. As a result, points based system has now occupied central part of the UK Government's five year strategy for asylum and immigration (MAC 2009).Point Based System and Its Procedure The UK Points Based system is based on a five tier framework: Tier 1: Highly skilled migrants, entrepreneurs, investors and graduate students. Tier 2: Skilled workers with a job offer; this tier replaced the work permit rules. Tier 3: Low skilled workers – restricted to those needed to fill temporary shortages. Tier 4: Students. Tier 5: Youth mobility and other mainly unpaid temporary workers such as interns (Murray 2011). The five tiers were brought in action in between February 2008 and March 2009. Tiers 1 and 2 can lead to permanent settlement. Migrants in Tiers 1, 2 and 4 can potentially switch between one another. Tiers 3 and 5 are temporary routes and migrants cannot move out of these tiers once they are in the UK. Dependants are allowed to come to the United Kingdom with the main applicant, but they are not allowed to work if they accompany a student under Tier 4 or a temporary worker under Tier 5, who has less than 12 month’s leave to remain in the country. An employer or educational instit ution issues a certificate of sponsorship to the migrant they have chosen; the migrant can then make an application for clearance through the points test and will receive more points if their sponsor is ‘A’ rated and less if it is ‘B’ rated. Tier 1 applicants do not require a job offer so therefore do not need a certificate of sponsorship. Points are awarded differently in each tier. The government introduced several categories for Tier 1: an applicant under the ‘entrepreneurs’ category must hold at least ?200,000 of disposable capital in a regulated financial institution; under the investors category they must hold at least ?1 million of disposable funds; applicants under the ‘graduate students’ category must have a qualification from a UK institution; under the general highly skilled category an applicant is awarded points based on a range of factors including age, qualifications, work experience or education in the UK, and previ ous earnings. There are five routes of entry under Tier 2: Shortage occupation for skilled people coming to the UK for a specific vacancy that cannot be filled by a British. Resident labour market test for jobs that cannot be filled through the other Tier 2 routes. The employer (sponsor) needs to show that there is no suitably qualified worker from the UK. Intra-company transfer for established employees of multinational companies who are being transferred to a skilled job in a UK-based branch of the

A study of techniques in dynamics, and breif describtion about the techniques used in the project. Introduction so what is Maya Dynamics? Dynamics is an Autodesk Maya software that depends on laws and theories of physics to let us simulate natural forces in the animation. such as rain, smoke, fire, explosions, colliding objects etc. The animation is achevied by creating required elements in a scene and connecting them to inbuild forces in Maya to achieve required simulations. such as creating expressions, fields, collisions, goals etc.. Maya dynamics can also be defined as the animation of soft bodies, particles and rigid bodies. Study of Maya Dynamics technology Rigid bodies Rigid body are defined as those surfaces that doesnt deform its shape when it collide with another object.A few examples in real world would be billard balls and carroms . Rigid body technique in maya provides the simulation of geometric elements in a dynamically controlled enviornment using collision based system in Maya. There are two types of rigid bodies Active and Passive rigid bodies. Active rigid body are created for colliding with another surface and for simulating in a realistic manner. They have the ability to move, spin, rotate and collide with passive objects. Difference between active rigid body and passive rigid body. Active Passive can be keyframed Yes No respond to collisions No Yes affectd by fields No Yes Particles Maya particles are those objects that have no volume or size. They are basically reference points simulated, animated, and renderd seperatly.Like any other nodes in maya , particles also contain nodes that contain attributes which can be used for controlling individual particles.Nodes contain array, ramps , scripts and expressions. How does Maya particles differ from Maya geometry? Particles are points in space which require special care while rendering. Particles can only be renderd out using software or hardware rendering methods Fields Fields are the natural forces in nature that are manupilated in Autodesk maya.Such as gravity, wind, turbulance, air etc..that increases particle simulation and visual of the scene in a better way. Particle expressions One of the most powerful and infinite method of controlling particle parameters.Particles expressions depends on Mel syntax.Few examples of Particle expressions are: The first expressions determines the life time and the second expression determines the color of simulated particles in a maya scene. particleShape1.lifespanPP=time*1; particleShape1.rgbPP=rand(0,1); Goals Goals are a very strong method of animating the particles.Goals work more like a huge magnet that attract particles towards it or goals are considerd as the destination point for the particles.Goals have thier own attributes specifically designed for goal based simulation. Particle instancing Particle instancing control the motion and simulation of the instanced object created in Maya.Particle instancing are uesd for creating multiple objects that folllow their parents simulation. One example is : Thousands of arrows shot up in the sky. How to render out particles in Maya? Now here is a frequent question asked by freshers. What good is it to simulate the particles in maya and doesnt have the knowledge to render it out . Maya provides two option to render particle simulation. Software rendering Hardware rendering software rendering This technique allows for scene integration of particles and other renderd objects.Software renderd particles have glows, shadows, and lighting effects. Hardware rendering Hardware rendering is one of the quickest method of image creation in maya. But these images are taken to compositing softwares for compositing with the rest of the scene. In depth study of Maya Dynamics techniques used in the project Techniques used in the project Fluids Particle Instancing Maya Fluids Maya fluids are widely used for creating fluid simulations.Maya fluid box contains emiiter and container which supports the creation and simulations of smoke, fire, clouds, explosions etc.. this chapter brefily describes about the use of containers , how to create a reaction and how to render it out. Fluid containers Fluid containers visually represents a small scene inside a maya scene. They are best used for creation of fire ,clouds and explosions.Fluids are generated inside the container by an emitter or by painting the fluid inside the container. The simulation happens only inside the container.Dynamic forces are then connected to the container for better simulations. There are two types of container in maya 2d container 3d container 3d conatiner 2d container Both work in the same way but the only difference between them is 2d containers are flat and they simulate much faster where as 3d containers are cubical volumes and will take time for them to simulate. 3d containers 3d containers have depth ,height and width.Which obviously increases the render time. The best possible way to start working in a 3d conatiner is by setting its resolution at 20,20,20 intially and grdually increasing accordigly. One important thing in 3d container is that the size and resolution are proportional to each other. If the container size is 10,20,10 then resolution should be set to 20,40,20, or 5,10,5.Other wise the fluids will get strecthed and simulation appears strecthed. But ofcourse there are some instances when they can be alterd. (Above) size and resolution Chapter 5 This chapter decribes the study of explosions i have conducted for my project. Object of Research The series of research reported in this document is the study of physical phenomenon, the visual of an explosion and the after effect of the situvation that happens when an explosion occours. This includes study of the destructions of different shaped explosions , and the turbulence that occours during the time of ignition, as well as a study of damage occured and its after effects such as fire and smoke. What is an explosion? An explosion can be defined as a sudden bursting or blowing apart caused by energy released from a very fast escape of gases under pressure, or from a very fast chemical reaction or a nuclear reaction. Which in result produces a shock wave, loud noise, heat and light. What are the different types of Explosions? Explosions are classified into three categories. Mechanical Explosions Chemical Explosions Nuclear Explosions Mechanical Explosions The gradual build up of gases and pressure inside a pressure cooker. When the safety pressure valve is destroyed, blocked or eliminated intense amount of heat is generated. Mechanical explosion results from spontaneous combustion created by dust in a grain storage bin. Chemical Explosions Chemical explosions are caused by extremely rapid conversion of solid or liquid explosive compound into gases which has highly increased volume compared to the original compound. All manufactured explosives are chemical explosions. The explosion rate is too fast that it takes only a micro second to create intense heat and pressure. Nuclear Explosions May only be induced by either fission (splitting of nuclei of atom) or fusion (joining nuclei of atoms under great force). When the action occurs tremendous energy, heat, gas and shock takes place creating a blast equivalent to 40 million pounds of high explosive. A nuclear explosion occurs as a result of the rapid release of energy from an intentionally high speed nuclear reaction. The explosion of an atomic bomb. Visual of an Explosion The effects are Heat, Light and Gases. Changes that occour results in combustion or burning. The initial color of an explosion is bright yellow, bright orange which gradually develops into bright thick red and die into a grayish and black color. Velocity of an Explosion Black powder detonates 3000-5000 feet per second. High explosives detonate from a range of 3300-29,000 fps. Primary effects from an Explosion Blast pressure effect.(positive and negative effect) Fragmentation effect. Incendiary or thermal effect. Ionization radiation. Residual radiation. Blast pressure Blast pressure are clasified into two categories Positive blast Negative blast Positive blast effect The explosion creates a blast of pressure going outward in a 360 degree from the centre of blast. At a rate of 4000-27,000 fps. Negative blast effect The explosion creates a vacuum of negative pressure that is diminished in strength in comparison of positive blast effect but still destructive enough to create an injury or death. The negative blast rushes gases and debris back towards the centre of blast. Fragmentation effect The act or the process of scattering of fragments of an exploding bomb. The fragmentation can be defined as the process of dividing. As an explosion occurs the gas pressure released pick up all the debris and any obstacles that may be picked up, bent, fractured otherwise destroyed by the pressure from the blast. Incendiary or Thermal effect Thermal radiation can be defined as an electromagnetic radiation emitted from the surface of a material due to the particular temperature of the material. The intense amount of heat and light produced by a nuclear explosion. Example of Thermal effect would be heat so intense that the sand in the area is near the blast centre is turned into glass. Example of Incendiary effect would be the ignition of wooden framework of a building causing the entire structure to burn to the ground in addition to blast damage. Ionization radiation Ionizing radiation can be defined as the radiation that is capable of producing ions either directly or indirectly. Radiation of sufficient energy to displace electrons from the atoms of cells and produce ions. Forms of ionization radiation Heat waves Radio waves X rays Ultra violet light Infra red light Residual radiation Residual radiation can be defined as the radio active materials emitted by a Nuclear explosion when an atomic blast occours. Which includes, Fission products, unfissioned nuclear material Research on the technical part of the Explosions What is the possible way to create an explosion for a short film? The best possible way to create an explosion for a short films are: Miniature + real explosion Miniature + cg Complete Cg Miniature + real explosion I build a miniature and fill it up with explosives. Rent a camera for the shoot and blow up the miniature in front of a black backround.Capture the video and then take it to compositing software. Miniature + Cg I build a miniature and blow it up without any pyrotechnique.Rent a camera and capture the footage. Create a Cg explosion. Use a compositing software and composite the two videos. Complete Cg I build a Cg miniature and create a Cg explosion. Then composite the two clips. Chapter 6 Breif introduction about studios. How does the studios carry out dynamic simulations? Study of dynamic simulations achieved in movie 2012. Movie : 2012 Director : Roland Emmerich Production studio : Scanline vfx(1990) Digital domain(1993) Double negative(1998) Sony pictures image works(1993) Pixomondo(2001) Hydrulx(2002) Crazy horse effects(2001) Evil eye pictures(1997) Gradient eye effects Uncharted territory(1999) Uncharted territory About Uncharted territory(llc) is one of the succesfull independent film production company established in 1999 by Visual Effects Supervisor Volker Engel and Visual Effects Producer and Supervisor Marc Weigert. The studio focus on developing , producing and co-producing feature films, TV movies and mini-series in the action/adventure and sci-fi genres. The studio hires 30-40 artist for each project and dissolve them when the project is completed. Production focus 2012 The studio was handed over 433 shots. They hired over 100 artists for the job to get done. Shot: First half of los angeles earthquake. (above)Earthquake preview done at llc Uncharted territory started working with the preview of earthquakes.when the visual feel of the earthquake was satisfied in the preview, they moved on to create in 3d.The unique thing about this shot is that it was 100% realistic digital enviornment and it has to break 100% realisticly. That was a huge challenge as they have to make sure the shading, texturing and lighting is correct and it looks realistic. But again as they have to visually show an eartquake of magnitude of 10+, it makes the job even more difficult. Many of the shots in los angeles airplane escape sequence the background showed huge amount of destructions of office buildings and many other which collapses and falls into the massive crack opened up on the earth surface. All these incidents have to be massive and huge. To make a collapsing building you need to have more than a building if it doesnt it looks unrealistic.fire, smoke, people, traffic, plants and many more to give a realistic look to that particular shot.It dosent end there as these objects crack, collapse and collide with other objects it creates dust and secondary debris. (Above)Los angeles plane escape sequnce.bg was composited later. (above)final compited shot. To visually display all these destructions one thing was quite clear from the rest of all that these destructions have to simulated using computer graphics. No cg software in the market was capabale of achieving it.so they have to build a tottaly new software which supports the rigid body simulations, shattering objects, material properties and capable of running these simulations. They named the newely build softawre as DROP. Drop The software gives the artist an extra advantage to break a building at a particular point and how large or small the destruction should be and to which direction it should fall. Accurate calculation of the magnitude and the precision, accuracy of the collapse. The speed of the destruction and the stability. Ability to run the simulation thousand times faster with multiple geometry, which widley provides time for the artist to test multiple simulations in a day. ar-winning Visual Effects Supervisor Volker Engel and Emmy-award winning Visual Effects Producer and Supervisor Marc Weigert.scar-winning Visual Effects Supervward winning Visual Effects Producer and Supervisor Marc W Double Negative About Double Negative was set up in 1998 with 30 staff. At present the studio has developed upto 700+staff making it one of the largest visual effects providers for films in Europe. They currently opened up a studio in Singapore with 50+ staff which works closely to the the main company in London. Production focus 2012 Double Negatives most challenging part in 2012 was to create lava bombs and pyroclatic ashes at yellowstone. The solution to this issue was to use pre simulated ashes and then importing it to the shot. The individual simulations were build in fluid dynamics. After much testing and running simulations they were able to simulate pyroclatic ashes in different sizes and shapes. The size were varying from a football to the size of a four story building. (Above)pyroclatic ashes varying from different sizes. Later stages they build lightweight rig in maya for the timing and placement of lava bombs.Once things was finalised the scene files exported to houdini were all the softbody, rigidbody simulations of lava bombs was solved.which included the impacting, soil and bedrock layers. (Above)lava bombscollision on the ground In Houdini the artists will analyze the trajectory and direction of each lava bombs and then calculate the point of impact.Later they run a lot of test simulations till they acheive what they wanted. And then as the lava bombs collides with the ground surface the ground breaks apart and throws up a lot of smoke dust and fire etc. When everything was finalised in Houdini they exported it back to maya for rendering. Pixomondo About Pixomondo was established in 2001 by CEO and executive producer Thilo kuther. Pixomondo is an international visual effects studio which has branches all over Europe. They have a global network of studio in :Berlin,Stuggart,Frankfurt,Munich,Shangahi,London and they recently opened up a studio in Los angeles.Pixomondo have positioned themselves on the frontier of the changing visual effects world. They have efficent and collaborative workflow across different time zones which established 247 production cycle. The studio offers supervision and production of : Cg character creation 3d animation and previsualisation of feature film Television and commercial industry. They worked recently on films like 2012 and Ninja assasin. Production focus 2012 The intense amount of destruction filmed in 2012 is the reflection of intense amount of previews the studio has worked. These preview was not just a helping hand in the production and post-production phase it was equally important for the story telling phase. The previews also served the assistant directors for setting up lighting , camera positioning and many other technical issues. It widley helped the director to revision his ideas. Vfx supervisor Rainer Gombus worked closely with director from october 2008 with the previews. This team consist of a group of highly talent lead animation artist, lead visual effects artist ,producer and executive producer Thilo kuther.Work was seperated among the global studios under Pixomondo. They had to provide previews that satisfied sony pictures and which helps the film makers to enhance their production pipeline.Almost all the previews had water, fire, smoke etc..In some cases they were creating detailed number of differnt shots from different angles when storyboards didnt exsist. Digital Domain About Digital Domain was established in 1993 by film industry. The studio has done a lot of contribution to the film industry over the past decade and are still on the process of acheiving it in th future. They have worked on many award winning films like : Titanic Curious case of Benjamin Button 2012 The studio received three Academy awards for visual effects and four other awards for scientific and technical achievement. Production focus 2012 (Above)plane escape shot Digital Domain was paired with Pixomondo to create the previews of plane escape shot from Los Angeles.Working on the camera moves, massive destruction and blocking out the rest. While Pixomondo was working on the previews the vfx supervisor of DD started working on the preproduction , focusing on blue screen shots. The DD office in california started working with rd.They consisted of 150 artists and programers who started working from August 2008 and it lasted till July 2009. Shot describtion The hero comes to resuce his children ,his ex wife and her newly met boyfriend. As the plane try to take off an earthquake occours creating a huge crack in the ground and try to suck the plane into it.But the hero manges to pull up from the pressure and manges to move around the collapsing city and finally escapes through the sea. (Above) ground crack Production One of the shots at which the DD had to work was the plane lift up shot.Majority of the footage was live action excluding the cg buildings and the road. The trees was done later procedurally. The footage was compiled with large number of photographs and merging them together, they had to model each single houses, buildings and other geometry. They hired a helicopter and continuelsy shot the footage, which was later merged in the actual shots. The runway set was made out of plywood framed platform with cylinders toped under it.A tarmic type texture was applied to it ,to give a more realistic look. The construction helped the technichians to squash, stretch and flex the runway. Ground cracking and debris was acheived through 2d tracking which required a lot of detailed paint works. Simulating these sequnces from scratch would be impossible.so they developed a library system and started modelling chunks of ravine   each about 100 yards long, then layers and layers of rocks, debris and small simulated particles and volumentics on top of that. Each section of the collapse scene ran around 400 frames and each of them can be repeated as they wanted. This process allowed enough control for the artist to control where the wall would collapse and the number of frames it will take. When they finalised the shots its time to render it out. All the shots was renderd out in Renderman.Since the sequnce was during day it required straight forward HDRI lighting. Each shot had around 30-40 render passes. All these was composited in Nuke. Chapter 7 Emerging technology Next limit Realflow 5 Realflow 4 is a stand alone 3d simulation software which supports fluid simulation, such as water, rigid body, meshes and gaseous substances. The software is developed by Nextlimit technologies. The creator recieved an award from motion pictures of arts and science for the creation of Realflow in 2007. Realflow is based on particle simulation. It completly depends upon the physical properties to interact with each other and creates realistic aceleration, forces and impulses. These particles can be influenced by point based nodes known as daemons, which is a powerfull tool that can simulate the motion of gravity, twister and tsunami. Running platforms Works both in 32 and 64 bits. Works on various operating systems Compaitable with 3d studio max,Autodesk maya,Cinema 4d,Xsi and lightwave. Whats new in Realflow 5 At Siggraph 2009 Nextlimit played a demo version of Realflow 5.Here are some cool new features that will be available in version 5. Particle based fluid simulation When comparing version 4 with version 5 , the version 5 can simulate much faster when using particle based solver. Hybrid based fluid solver This new feature lets you simulate medium to large scale fluids. The solver has the ability to detect those areas that need more resolution and it will automatically generate particles in those areas. New and updated plugins Nextlimit added up a new plugin for Houdini,Lightwave and Xsi.The plugins for Maya and 3dMax is also updated. Script udated Realflow works on Pyhton scripting. The new C++ sdk script opens up different variations in simulating and helps in pipeline integration. New dynamic engine for softbody and rigidbody This new engine is developed from scratch and it is completly multithreaded. It has a new level of physical accuracy. Licence scheme updated Like the previos versions of real flow version 5 dosent depend on cpu,it will be licensed by machine.

Justice in Aeschylus The Oresteia Essay -- Aeschylus Oresteia

Justice in Aeschylus' The Oresteia How can an endless and violently destructive cycle be just? The concept appears in places along the human timeline as diverse as the Bible and West Side Story. Why do people have a tendency to amplify and repeat violence through a cycle of murder and revenge, and how can this destructive process be called justice? In The Oresteia, the cycle is a familiar one, but is also interweaved with gender issues and a sense of justice that changes within the cycle itself. Instead of focusing on one book of the trilogy, I think it will be more worthwhile to see how these patterns flow through all three books.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The first chapter of the trilogy is the story of Agamemnon, the war hero of Troy who returns home after 10 years. The King had left on a rather sour note, having murdered his daughter Iphigenia to appease the Gods in order for the fleet to sail for Troy. Clytomnestra, the Queen, cannot understand the sacrifice. This is the first occurrence of the so-called gender battle in the trilogy. Agamemnon’s actions are typical of the classic Greek ‘male’ point of view. He is mostly concerned with issues of war, honor and the welfare of the city. Clytomnestra, in contrast, is more concerned with ‘female’ issues, such as the welfare of the family. The Queen, during the King’s absence, becomes obsessed with her daughter’s death, and takes a new lover to the exclusion of her remaining children in an attempt to steal control over the city. When Agamemnon returns, instead of a faithful wife he finds a quick death at the hands of Aegithus. It is interesting to note that another person is also killed, an innocent. Clytomnestra kills Cassandra, a prophetic girl brought home from Troy, on a whim... ...ause it would only allow him to act out more injustice. Still, the idea of making him a better person relative to the values of society is somewhat anti-Socratic. Socrates would rather there be an absolute ideal, without room for human opinion or emotion. Unfortunately, practical situation often preclude the actualization of his ideal. His logic still entails to the idea of relative justice. In modern terms, this would be akin to sentencing criminals to time in therapy or mental health institutes rather than incarceration. This is not so radical a departure from what proponents of capital punishment suggest. But is society ready for a justice system where the guilty are not punished? I don’t think so. As sad as it may seem, the human tendency for hate overrides true justice. Works Cited: Aeschylus. Oresteia. Trans. Peter Meineck. Indianapolis: Hackett, 1998
